Day 17 – Shōwa Day

Happy Shōwa Day Tokyo! Its a public holiday and honors the birthday of Emperor Shōwa, which probably explains why it’s extra busy.

So I take back what I said in yesterday’s blog about fast Japanese service!

I waited an 1.5hr before getting into Burn Side St Cafe in Harajuku for breakfast pancakes. The line didn’t seem that long, but it was definitely slow moving.

Waiting: asian squat in full effect

By the time I was seated and got my food, it was midday and I was so hungry that I ordered breakfast and lunch.

It seems standard that in popular places like Harajuku you have to wait in line for a seat, especially during Golden Week.

Afterwards I caught a train to Shibuya 109, did some shopping and admired the crazy amount of people in one place.

The famous Shibuya crossing was teeming with people.

I stopped by Genki Sushi, when it was less busy for a quick dinner.

Then returned home for my evening bath ritual.

Beautifully scented sakura bath fizzier

Enhanced now by some bath bombs and Epsom Salts I picked up at Tokyu Hands.

Great way to finish a busy day in Tokyo. Happy Shōwa Day!
